Please join us for the TS chat on Saturday, March 21st, at 7 pm Greenwich Mean Time (GMT)/19:00 UTC. That could be as early as 12 noon if you’re on the west coast of North America, or 3 pm if you’re on the east coast, or 7 pm in the UK, or Sunday morning in Australia or New Zealand.

Folks in US and Canada, be aware that, starting this week, chat is an hour later than it was last week, thanks to Daylight Savings Time (if you live in Arizona, you can ignore this). The UK and Europe will catch up to us in a few weeks, and for folks in Australia, New Zealand, or elsewhere in the Southern Hemisphere, chat will be an hour earlier once Daylight Savings Time ends.

Confused? Consult a time zone converter and remember that we are ALWAYS at 7 pm Greenwich Mean Time (GMT)/19:00 UTC.

We’re in the usual place: http://us25.chatzy.com/81935648447483. There’s nothing to download or install, just choose a name and a color and click on “join chat.”

Our topic this week: vids. Let’s watch some vids!

See you there!

Challenge 293:
ROUGH SEAS
The ocean might be beautiful, but it isn’t safe.

Maybe there’s a storm rolling in, whipping the waves into peaks that tower higher than ships while ominous clouds gather overhead. Maybe the tide’s going out, pulling the waves along the shoreline into treacherous riptides. Maybe there’s something lurking in the depths, stirring up the surface. Whatever it is, right now, the seas are rough.

How do your characters handle it? Are they skilled sailors or swimmers, risking the waves easily? Or would they rather stay on shore and watch?

Write a story about rough seas.

BONUS GOAL: “Never turn your back on the sea.”

If your submission features this line, it will earn an extra point to be tallied in voting!

Challenge ends Monday, March 23 at 9:00PM EST.

Happy Saturday!

I'm going to be doing a little maintenance today. It will likely cause a tiny interruption of service (specifically for www.dreamwidth.org) on the order of 2-3 minutes while some settings propagate. If you're on a journal page, that should still work throughout!

If it doesn't work, the rollback plan is pretty quick, I'm just toggling a setting on how traffic gets to the site. I'll update this post if something goes wrong, but don't anticipate any interruption to be longer than 10 minutes even in a rollback situation.

Challenge 292:
DAYDREAMING
It’s a lovely, sunny day, with a light breeze and no one else in sight. You’re free to let your mind wander, building imaginary castles in the air and playing out epic battles, plotting out the next chapter of your novel, mapping out a journey you might or might not take -

Wait, is someone calling your name?

Daydreaming can be a fun way to pass the time, but sometimes it comes with a price! If you’re daydreaming, you’re not paying attention to whatever else you’re doing – and sometimes that can be a big problem.

Do your characters daydream? What do they daydream about? Do they miss anything important while they’re doing it?

Write a story about daydreaming.

BONUS GOAL: Gentle Breezes

If your submission features the wind, it will earn an extra point to be tallied in voting!

Challenge ends Monday, March 16 at 9:00PM EST.
